Apara Ekadashi: The Fast that helps to wash away all your sins
Apara Ekadashi falls during the month of Jyestha as per Hindu calendar. This fast helps to remove all your sins, no matter how grave they are. There is a story behind this fast in which Lord Krishna explains to Yudhishthira, who was the eldest brother of the Pandavas in the Mahabharat. He asked the Lord to explain the Ekadashi that falls in the month of Jyestha. Lord Krishna replied that whoever observes this fast will be free from all kinds of sins even killing a Brahmin or cow and other heinous crime will also be forgiven just because of the fast done on this auspicious day. He will also become very famous all over the world and gain all the pleasure of the world. The follower of this day can also get better health, wealth and prosperity.
Observing Apara Ekadashi
Ekadashi is considered as a very auspicious day for all Hindus. On this auspicious day one should wake up early in the morning and should take bath as well as free from all the other activities of the routine. One needs to take food only on the previous night. On Apara Ekadashi devotees of Lord Vishnu should abstain from food for the whole day. But today many people are finding it difficult to keep the fast due to certain health condition and work. Those people can observe partial fast which means they can take only fruit, dry fruits, nuts and vegetables. They should avoid grains and cereals especially rice. Some people try not to sleep on Ekadashi night and will recite prayers to Lord Vishnu. On this day, various Krishna and Vishnu temple follow special puja and decorate the idol of the Lord also. It has also huge significance among followers of Vaishnav and Swaminarayan Sect also.
