Hanuman Jayanti refers to the birthday of Lord Hanuman and is celebrated on full moon day in the Hindu month of Chaitra. Other names of Lord Hanuman are Bajrang bali, Anjaneya,Anjanisut,Pavankumar, Pavansut and Vanara God. Lord Hanuman is a very important character of Ramyana and is very dear to Rama as well. On this day devotes gather in Hanuman temples and worship him for better health and wealth. In Andhra Pradesh Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated for 41 days during which people take deeksha. The diksha starts on chait purnima day and ends on Hanuman jayanti day.
History behind hanuman jayanti
Once saint Angira went to visit Lord Indira. Here he was welcomed by dance by a damsel named Punjiksthala. Angira had no interest in the dance and thus started meditating. After the dance finished, Lord Indra asked Angira’s opinion on dance. He became angry and cursed the damsel that she will have to take birth on earth as female monkey. She got birth as daughter of Kunjar and got married to Kesari. Later she gave birth to Hanuman. Everyone in the kingdom of Kesari became very happy to know the news and started to dance and sing.
