Harmony Day, celebrate unity in diversity
This day is considered as a day of unity and harmony among people. Harmony Day is celebrated every year on 21st March. This day is celebrated to keep aside racial discrimination and inequality. Harmony Day is celebrated in Australia on a large scale and they celebrate this day in order to give equal rights and respect to everyone irrespective of caste, creed, sex and skin colour. This day has special importance among students. People come together and celebrate their diversity and multicultural activities. First Harmony Day was celebrated in the year 1999. People celebrate this day coming together at one place and they participate in different activities. They come up with their friends, family and relatives. They all share the feeling of belongingness together which is the prime motive of the day.
Celebrations starts from morning
Harmony Day celebration starts with morning tea and continue till night, however, the style of celebration is a bit different in different areas. At many places people gather together they organize fare, conduct various exhibitions and even fancy dress competitions. They go outdoors and involve themselves in various sports activities. Various community groups, government schools, and business persons come together to celebrate the festival of oneness. This day is also known as Sports Day in Australia as they believe that playing together brings feeling of brotherhood. Orange color is chosen for Harmony Day as this color encourages them to show their support for cultural diversity. The people of Australia dress themselves in orange to respect each other and their nation. The basic concept behind this is to ensure that even being from different background we are here to feel to concept of unity in diversity. They learn about each other cultural and traditional values, religion and race. This really helps them in development of their nation.
