Independence Day History

In the year 1776, on the 2nd of July, the American Revolution achieved its long deserved freedom with the thirteen colonies of the Great Britain leaving the American lands forever. The legal separation of the thirteen colonies from the American lands occurred after the declaration was signed by the two leaders of the two countries jointly. This had been proposed by Richard Henry Lee, and was jointly signed by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. Well, as is popularly believed, the declaration was not signed on the 4th of July, but actually on the 2nd of July. You may ask, why then is the 4th of July celebrated as the Independence Day. There are a few facts behind this change of date. The reason being, both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on the 4th of July 1826, exactly 50 years after gaining independence. James Monroe, not a signer of the declaration, but the founding father of the United States also died on 4th of July. This is the main reason why 4th of July was finally declared as the Independence Day in America.
