Parshuram Jayanti is celebrated as the birthday of Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
History about Lord Parshuram
Parshuram was famous for his fighting skills and he is also considered as chiranjeevi in Hindu mythology. There are various stories associated with Parshuram. First story says that he was very loyal to his parents. One day his father got angry on his mother and ordered him to kill her. He got confused on this but later followed the order and killed his mother. However, he was able to get back her life later. There is another story when Parshuram went to meet lord Shiva. Lord Shiva had told his sons Karthikeyan and Ganesha
to guard the place so that no one disturbs him. When Parshuram came to meet Shiva, he was stopped by sons of Shiva
. Parshuram got angry on this and hit Ganesha with a weapon. The weapon hit tooth of Ganesha and small part of the tooth got broken. Goddess Parvati heard the voice of Ganesha and came to the spot. She got angry on Parshuram and took the form of Shakti. Later Shiva intervened and stopped her from taking any action.
How People Celebrate Parshuram Jayanti
Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day. People visit temples for this purpose after taking bath. It is also believed that taking fast on this day gives baby boy.
