When is Vat Savitri Vrat

Vat Savitri Vrat: Remembring about Savithiri and her devotion

This is one of the most famous Vrat among females of Hinduism which also displays the power of women determination. This day is followed on the full moon day of the Jyeshtha month of the Hindu calendar. Vat Savitri Vrat is observed by married women for the well-being and long life of their husband. This is the day to remember the determination and courage of Savitri. According to the legend it is said that Savitri had brought the life of her husband back even from the clutches of Yama, the god of death after winning the debate to him and praising him. This is a very important day for all married Hindu women. Women observe three days of fast and will break it on the fourth day.

Rituals to be performed on Vat Savitiri Vrat

It is very important vrat for all the Hindu ladies but the Vrat is restricted for the married ladies only. Usually women keep fast for three days but it entirely depends on the woman who is taking the fast. Pregnant women and those with ill health are advised not to take this fast. On this auspicious day women dress up like a bride and they worship banyan tree. A yellow, white or red thread is tied around the trunk of banyan tree which signifies the long life of their husband. They also make a picture of banyan tree using sandalwood paste. They offer puja to this picture of banyan tree on all the three days. On the fourth day they will break the fast and special food is prepared for that occasion. At night they wake up for the whole night and keep praying gods and worship them for the betterment of Husband and family.
